BTS to extend services for Bangkok marathon on November 28–29

BTS will extend SkyTrain operating hours and keep Mo Chit park-and-ride open around the clock as Bangkok prepares to welcome more than 71,000 marathon participants.

BTS will extend SkyTrain operating hours on November 28–29 for the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok 2026, which organisers say has attracted 71,435 runners across four distances.

The transport arrangements include additional station staff and round-the-clock opening of the park-and-ride facility at Mo Chit on both days, offering participants a rail connection to the starting area.

BTS adviser Narissara Srisan outlined the operator’s support in an announcement published by The Nation. The company will work with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to provide extended services and help passengers travelling to the event.

More than 71,000 runners registered

Preparations for the ninth edition of the marathon were announced at Toyota Alive Convention Hall in Bangkok on October 27. Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul attended alongside Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool.

The programme covers the full marathon distance of 42.195km, a 21.1km half-marathon, a 10km race and a 4.5km event. Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge is due to take part for the third consecutive year.

An NNT report carried by Pattaya Mail said registrations comprised 62,463 Thai runners and 8,972 international participants. Organisers also expect more than 40,000 accompanying visitors.

The wider attendance estimate is at least 120,000 people, including runners, accompanying visitors, officials and members of the public. Total prize money will exceed 4 million baht, with 12 royal trophies and a further 229 honorary trophies to be awarded.

Extended SkyTrain hours and Mo Chit parking

The extended transport operation will cover the Sukhumvit and Silom lines. BTS said station staff would be deployed to assist passengers and maintain safety during the event.

For runners and supporters arriving by car before transferring to the SkyTrain, the Mo Chit Station park-and-ride facility will remain open 24 hours a day on November 28 and 29.

Narissara encouraged participants to use rail transport, saying it offered a convenient way to reach the event while helping to reduce traffic congestion.

BTS directs passengers seeking further operating information to its BTS SkyTrain Facebook page, LINE Official Account @btsskytrain and THE SKYTRAINs app, which provides train operating status.

Organisers forecast tourism spending

The NNT report put the event’s projected economic impact at at least 2.3 billion baht, covering tourism, accommodation, transport and related services. That figure is a forecast rather than spending already recorded.

Tourism officials presented the marathon as part of a strategy to increase the value and revenue generated by tourism, with international sporting events helping to attract visitors. For participants and accompanying visitors, the confirmed practical arrangements centre on extended rail services and overnight parking at Mo Chit during the two-day event.
