Three international engineering dual-degree programmes will admit Thai and international students from 2027, with tuition set at 450,000 baht per academic year.

Queen Mary University of London and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) have launched three international engineering dual-degree programmes in Thailand, with the first students due to enter in the 2027 academic year.

The partnership brings the UK Russell Group university together with KMUTT to deliver Bachelor of Engineering programmes in Bangkok. According to a partnership announcement published in The Nation’s PR News section, the four-year programmes will charge tuition fees of 450,000 baht per academic year, or 1.8 million baht over the full course.

UK academics to teach in Bangkok

The universities are also establishing an International Centre for Future Technologies. Its teaching arrangements will include a “Flying Faculty” model, under which academics from Queen Mary travel to Bangkok to teach alongside KMUTT staff.

The collaboration is intended to combine Queen Mary’s international academic expertise with KMUTT’s strengths in engineering, technology, applied research and industry engagement. Its stated aim is to prepare graduates for technological change and the needs of future industries.

Associate Professor Dr Suvit Saetia, KMUTT’s president, described the partnership as an effort to expand access to international education within Thailand, allowing students to gain an international learning experience in Bangkok.

He said the universities’ ambitions extended beyond the first three programmes, with the new centre intended to support longer-term education, research, innovation and collaboration between Thailand and the UK. He identified artificial intelligence, data and advanced engineering as fields in which students would need knowledge and skills as technology develops.

Applications open to Thai and international students

The programmes are intended for both Thai and international applicants who have completed upper secondary education or an equivalent qualification. All three are preparing to welcome their first cohort in the 2027 academic year.

For prospective students and families, the announcement establishes the planned entry year, basic educational eligibility and tuition cost. It does not name the three engineering specialisms or give application deadlines and detailed entry requirements.

Applicants can find programme information and application details through the partnership’s dedicated website.

A platform for longer-term collaboration

Professor Colin Bailey, president and principal of Queen Mary, said the partnership would draw on the university’s research expertise and more than two decades of international education experience, alongside KMUTT’s engineering expertise.

Both university leaders presented the launch as the start of a broader relationship rather than a stand-alone degree offering. The first scheduled milestone is the arrival of students in 2027, while the International Centre for Future Technologies is intended to provide a platform for further academic and research collaboration.
