Customs officers seized unregistered weight-loss injection pens valued at more than 5.34 million baht from two suitcases after a passenger arrived from Dhaka.

Customs officers arrested a Chinese passenger at Suvarnabhumi Airport after finding 8,900 unregistered weight-loss injection pens concealed in two suitcases, with the seized products valued at more than 5.34 million baht.

The man was detained on 31 October 2026 after travelling from Dhaka, Bangladesh, according to customs officials cited by The Nation. Santanee Phairattanakorn, director of the Suvarnabhumi Airport Passenger Control Customs Office, reported the arrest.

Products lacked Thai FDA authorisation

An inspection of the passenger’s luggage uncovered the pens across two suitcases. The products had not been registered or authorised by Thailand’s Food and Drug Administration, customs officials said.

Authorities said the attempted import breached the Customs Act 2017, the Drug Act 1967, as amended, and other applicable laws. The report did not specify the brands or active ingredients of the seized products.

The reported enforcement action concerns the products’ registration and import status. The available account does not establish whether the pens were counterfeit or provide findings about their contents.

Customs targets unauthorised weight-loss imports

The seizure comes as the Customs Department steps up efforts to intercept illegal and substandard products entering Thailand. The department said it was paying particular attention to injectable weight-loss medicines in the GLP-1 group, which are subject to special controls.

According to the department, medicines in that category have previously been brought into Thailand through international passenger arrivals and other customs checkpoints without the required drug registration or FDA authorisation.

The case highlights customs enforcement against unauthorised medicine imports through passenger baggage. The supplied account gives no further details about the passenger’s intended destination, any alleged distribution arrangements or subsequent court proceedings.
