Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs →
How much investment risk should I take?

It depends on your goals, how long until you need the money, your income and how much you could afford to lose without changing your life. A review can help you find the right level.

Does currency affect my investments?

Yes. If you invest in one currency and spend in another, exchange rates change what your investments are worth to you. Matching currencies to spending reduces the risk.

What is an offshore investment bond?

An investment held inside a life insurance wrapper issued by an insurer in an international centre. It can hold many funds and can often be placed in trust.

Does Thailand tax my overseas investments?

If you're Thai tax resident (180+ days in a calendar year), foreign income earned from 2024 onwards that you bring into Thailand can be taxable, including investment income.

How do I spot an investment scam?

Be wary of anyone who contacts you first, promises high or guaranteed returns, pressures you to decide quickly or can't explain clearly what you'd own and how to get your money out.

Can someone review my risk and tax position for free?

Yes. Use the enquiry form on this page. Lawrence, a British expat in Thailand with more than 30 years in international finance, will come back to you by email, WhatsApp or LINE.
