An 83-year-old woman in Uthai Thani called in snake handlers after discovering a three-metre albino python inside her home — only to learn after its capture that it was her son’s escaped pet.

Sermsuk Thomya found the snake downstairs at her two-storey house in Uthai Mai subdistrict, Mueang district, according to a Khaosod English report published on 21 October. The explanation emerged when she phoned her son to tell him what had happened.

He told her that the python belonged to him and had been kept in a glass enclosure in an upstairs room. It had apparently escaped and made its way to the lower floor.

Snake handlers find python beneath shelf

Members of the Mueang Phra Chanok rescue team, which specialises in handling snakes, were called to the house after the python was spotted hiding downstairs.

Sermsuk directed them to a storage shelf beneath which the snake had slithered. Using specialised equipment, the rescuers secured it with a loop around its neck and removed it in an operation lasting about 10 minutes.

The python, described as albino with golden markings, measured approximately three metres. Its unusual appearance drew neighbours to the house, with some believing the snake could bring good luck.

Phone call resolves the mystery

The rescuers initially suspected that the python was an escaped pet and planned to take it to a zoo for care. At that stage, however, its connection to the household had not been established.

It was only after the capture that Sermsuk called her son and told him an albino python had entered the house. His explanation revealed that the animal had not arrived from outside but had apparently come from its enclosure upstairs.

Once its ownership was clear, the family asked the rescue team to return the python to the glass enclosure, bringing the unexpected call-out to an end.
