Look for the sign
Restaurants that welcome pets usually display a pet-friendly sign. Inside malls, pets are generally not allowed in restaurants without one.

Everything you need to live and travel with a dog or cat in Thailand: Bangkok's pet rules and condo limits, which transport takes pets, dog parks, pet-friendly malls and cafés, national parks, and the rules in public.
Pet ownership has boomed in Thailand, and Bangkok now has dog parks, pet-friendly malls, pet taxis and trains that allow pets at set times. But much is still off-limits: the BTS Skytrain bans pets, most of Bangkok's public parks do not allow dogs, and pets are banned from national parks.
Rules also differ between buildings, malls and businesses. The safest habit is to check before you go, carry your pet's vaccination book, and keep dogs on a lead and cats in a carrier in public.
Condos, houses and Bangkok's pet ordinance
Many Bangkok condos ban pets in their building rules, even when an individual owner is happy to rent to you. Others allow small pets only, or require pets to be carried in common areas and to use the service lift. Ask to see the building's rules, and get the landlord's permission for your pet written into the lease.
Houses in gated villages (moo baan) are usually easier, though village rules may limit the number of dogs or require them to stay on a lead in common areas. See our guide to renting with a pet for deposits, lease clauses and scams to avoid.
Bangkok's pet ordinance limits how many dogs and cats you may keep by the size of your home — one in a condo of 20–80 m², two above 80 m², and up to six in a large house — and requires registration and microchipping. Enforcement starts on 10 January 2027.
Our guide to renting with a pet has the full table, plus condo rules, pet deposits and what to put in the lease.

Where you can take your dog in Bangkok
Most of Bangkok's public parks do not allow dogs. Instead, the city runs nine fenced dog parks — the newest is Lumpini Dog Park, opened in 2026 and open from 04:30 — and a handful of parks have pet areas. Private dog parks on Sukhumvit add pools and cafés for a fee.
Our guide to dog parks and dog-friendly beaches lists every park with hours and rules, plus beaches in Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Samui.

Bangkok's pavements get hot enough to burn paw pads by mid-morning for much of the year. Plan walks and park visits for early morning or after sunset, carry water, and keep short-nosed breeds out of the midday heat altogether.
Lumpini Dog Park opens at 04:30 — useful for a cool, quiet run before work.
Signs of heat stroke →Rules differ by mall and change often — most allow pets only in a stroller or bag indoors, or only in outdoor and designated zones. From 2025–2026 guides; check with the mall before you go.
| Mall | Area | Rules reported |

| Central Festival EastVille | Ramintra / Lat Phrao | Stroller indoors (rentable on the 1st floor with ID); lead outdoors; large pet zone and dog run. |
| Central WestVille | Ratchaphruek | Stroller indoors; Pet Park zone with walking paths and play areas. |
| ICONSIAM | Charoen Nakhon | Fully enclosed stroller or bag; pets only in Pet Safari (B1, SIAM Takashimaya zone). |

| EmQuartier | Phrom Phong | Lead required; Helix Garden only, no indoor access. |
| The Commons | Thonglor 17 · Saladaeng | Lead at all times; mostly outdoor areas. |
| Mega Bangna | Bangna–Trad km 8 | Lead or stroller; outdoor areas. |

Pet hubs on Sukhumvit, such as 49Playscape (home to Dog Park 49 and Hungry Pack restaurant) and Trail and Tail on Sukhumvit 39, combine cafés with dog parks.
Many cafés with outdoor seating accept well-behaved dogs on a lead. Ask first, keep your dog off chairs and tables, and bring water.
Under the National Park Act of 2019, bringing an animal into a national park without permission is an offence, with fines of up to ฿20,000. This covers popular parks such as Khao Yai, Erawan and Doi Inthanon, and many island and marine parks.
Beaches outside national parks are a different story: many welcome dogs, though some resorts and local authorities restrict them. See our guide to dog parks and dog-friendly beaches.

Thailand's pet-friendly spaces depend on owners following the rules. A calm dog on a short lead, a cat in a secure carrier, waste cleaned up and an up-to-date vaccination book go a long way — with neighbours, building managers, drivers and café owners alike.
