Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs →
How much do I need to retire in Thailand?

It depends on where and how you live. Start from a budget in baht, add healthcare and travel, and test it at a cautious exchange rate.

How much can I safely take from my savings each year?

Morningstar's 2026 UK research suggests about 4.1% a year to start, rising with inflation, or around 5.7% if you're willing to adjust in bad years.

Will my State Pension keep up with inflation in Thailand?

No. It is frozen at the rate you first receive abroad, so other income needs to grow to fill the gap.

What money do I need for a retirement visa?

For a retirement extension: ฿800,000 in a Thai bank, ฿65,000 a month of income, or a combination. Practice varies by immigration office.

How do I manage cash flow in retirement?

Keep one to two years of spending in cash, move income on a fixed day each month and review your budget every year.

Can someone help me plan my retirement?

Yes. Use the enquiry form on this page. Lawrence, a British expat in Thailand with more than 30 years in international finance, will come back to you by email, WhatsApp or LINE.
