Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs →
What should I sort out before retiring to Thailand?

Your pensions and State Pension forecast, UK tax residence, banking in both countries, your visa money, health insurance, your will and beneficiaries, and how you'll move money.

How do I switch from saving to spending?

Build a cash buffer, decide how much income you need, choose a sustainable mix of secure and flexible income, and review it every year.

How big should a retiree's emergency fund be?

Many retirees keep one to two years of spending, mostly in baht, plus enough to cover any health insurance excess or uninsured costs.

Do I need a Thai will as well as a UK will?

Many expats with assets in both countries have a will for each, drafted so they work together. Take legal advice in both countries.

How much should I plan for healthcare?

Health insurance premiums rise with age, so plan for higher costs later in retirement and keep savings for anything insurance doesn't cover.

Can someone help me plan my retirement transition?

Yes. Use the enquiry form on this page. Lawrence, a British expat in Thailand with more than 30 years in international finance, will come back to you by email, WhatsApp or LINE.
