Is knee replacement actually the right operation?
Knee replacement is generally considered when arthritis or joint damage causes substantial pain and loss of function despite appropriate non-operative care. The decision should combine symptoms, examination, weight-bearing X-rays, alignment, range of movement, stability and the pattern of joint damage. Severe-looking imaging without corresponding disability is not, by itself, a reason to operate.
