Is the arthritis genuinely confined to one compartment?
Partial knee replacement depends heavily on patient selection. Symptoms, examination and weight-bearing imaging should support disease that is sufficiently localised, while the rest of the knee remains suitable for preservation. If pain is widespread or arthritis is advanced in several compartments, a partial replacement may not solve the whole problem.
