Etihad’s first A380 service to Thailand lands in Bangkok

Etihad has introduced its Airbus A380 on the Abu Dhabi–Bangkok route, adding capacity for the winter travel season and bringing its flagship premium cabins to Thailand.
Etihad Airways has brought its Airbus A380 to Thailand for the first time, launching a daily superjumbo service between Abu Dhabi and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport ahead of the peak winter travel season.
The airline confirmed the arrival on 26 October 2026. According to flight-tracking data cited by AeroTime, the inaugural aircraft, registered A6-APD, landed in Bangkok at 07:20 local time on 25 October after a flight of about five and a half hours from Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Airport.
The milestone is Etihad’s first A380 operation to Thailand, rather than the first visit to the country by an A380 from any airline.
A larger aircraft for the winter season
The launch follows Etihad’s February announcement that it would deploy its largest aircraft on the Abu Dhabi–Bangkok route. The daily A380 service adds capacity as the airline seeks to serve demand for travel between Thailand, the Middle East and Europe.
“Thailand is an important premium market for Etihad, and deploying our flagship aircraft allows us to increase capacity while bringing our most distinctive guest experience to the route,” said Antonoaldo Neves, Etihad’s chief executive.
Neves described Bangkok’s addition to the A380 network as part of the carrier’s plans to expand capacity and strengthen connections through Abu Dhabi. He also pointed to opportunities for growth in Thailand and the wider Asian market.
In an earlier airline announcement, Etihad said the A380 would operate its evening service from Abu Dhabi. The deployment is an aircraft change on the existing Bangkok route, not the opening of a new destination.
What passengers can expect on board
The double-decker aircraft brings Etihad’s flagship cabin configuration to the route, including The Residence, a three-room suite, alongside nine private first-class cabins with sliding doors.
The upper deck also accommodates 70 business-class seats, while the economy cabin has space for 415 passengers. The airline lists economy seats as 18.95 inches wide, with six inches of recline and 32 inches of legroom.
For travellers flying between Thailand and Abu Dhabi, or connecting through the UAE capital, the change provides access to those cabin products on the daily A380 rotation. The announcement concerns that service, rather than every Etihad flight serving Bangkok.
More reward-flight options within Thailand
The aircraft launch comes alongside a separate expansion of Etihad’s loyalty links in the region. In a press release, the airline announced a reciprocal reward-redemption partnership between Etihad Guest and Bangkok Airways’ FlyerBonus programme.
Under that arrangement, Etihad Guest members can redeem miles for Bangkok Airways flights, including services to Samui, Luang Prabang and Siem Reap. FlyerBonus members can use their points for award travel across Etihad’s network.
For Thailand-based members and visitors planning onward journeys, the partnership broadens the airlines on which they can redeem rewards, while the A380 deployment increases capacity on the Abu Dhabi–Bangkok link for the winter season.
