The England captain scored 61 goals for Bayern Munich and 12 for his country in 2025–26, earning the goalscoring award at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.

Harry Kane has won the 2026 Gerd Müller Trophy after scoring 73 goals for Bayern Munich and England during the 2025–26 season.

The England captain received the goalscoring honour at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on Monday, 26 October. His total comprised a club-record 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern and another 12 for England, taking his combined return to 73 in 65 matches.

The award recognises the leading goalscorer of the season. Kane had previously shared the trophy with Kylian Mbappé in 2024.

A record-breaking Bayern campaign

Kane’s third season at Bayern produced the highest single-campaign goals total in the German club’s history, surpassing the returns of a succession of celebrated forwards, including Gerd Müller and Robert Lewandowski.

His 61 club goals were spread across four competitions: 36 in the Bundesliga, 14 in the Champions League, 10 in the German Cup and one in the German Super Cup.

The Bundesliga tally secured another league scoring title, while his cup campaign included a hat-trick in Bayern’s 3–0 victory over Stuttgart in the final. Bayern finished the season with the domestic league and cup double.

Across all club competitions, Kane scored 19 more goals than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues. His return matched the 61 Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Real Madrid in 2014–15.

England goals lift total to 73

Kane added 12 goals for England, including six at the World Cup. He also registered eight assists across his 65 appearances for club and country.

The scoring figures came despite disappointment in the two biggest knockout competitions of his season: Bayern were eliminated in the Champions League semi-finals, while England also fell at the last-four stage of the World Cup.

Those exits did not prevent his individual output from earning recognition in London. The distinction between his club and international totals is important: the 73-goal figure covers both Bayern and England, rather than Bayern alone.

Ballon d’Or recognition on the same night

Kane also won the men’s Ballon d’Or, according to BBC Sport, becoming the first English recipient since Michael Owen in 2001. Mbappé finished second and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal third.

The 33-year-old became the fifth Englishman to win that award, following Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Owen. He was also Bayern’s first winner since Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 1981.

England manager Thomas Tuchel welcomed the achievement, while Wembley’s arch was illuminated in gold on Monday night to mark Kane’s success. Together, the two honours capped a season defined by record goalscoring for his club and a prolific contribution for his country.
