COMMON QUESTIONS

Safe withdrawal calculator FAQs

Is this a guaranteed sustainable withdrawal rate?
No. It is an illustration based on the assumptions entered. Actual returns, inflation, fees, taxes and spending will vary.
Why can funds run out even when returns look reasonable?
Withdrawals, inflation, fees and poor early market returns can combine to reduce the portfolio faster than expected.
What does inflation-linked withdrawal mean?
The calculator increases the portfolio withdrawal each year by the inflation rate entered, helping model rising living costs.
Should dependable pension income be included?
Yes. Dependable income can reduce how much must be withdrawn from investments and may materially improve fund sustainability.
Why compare several scenarios?
A single return assumption can create false confidence. Lower-return and higher-withdrawal scenarios help show how sensitive the plan may be.
How often should I review the plan?
At least annually, and whenever portfolio value, income, spending, health, retirement timing or major assumptions change.
Important: This calculator provides general planning estimates only and does not constitute personal financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Results depend entirely on the assumptions entered and actual outcomes will differ.
