Frequently Asked Questions

View all FAQs →
Which UK card is best for Thailand?

Most travellers do best with two: a fee-free debit card such as Chase or Starling for cash and everyday spending, and a fee-free credit card such as Barclaycard Rewards or Lloyds Ultra for hotels and bookings.

Do UK credit cards charge fees in Thailand?

Most standard cards add about 2.75% to 2.99% to every payment abroad. A handful of travel credit cards charge no foreign transaction fee on purchases.

Is it better to use a credit or debit card in Thailand?

Use a fee-free debit card for cash, because credit card cash withdrawals attract interest from day one, and a fee-free credit card for bookings and deposits, for Section 75 protection.

How often are these comparisons updated?

We check every figure on the date shown and review each table at least every six months, or sooner when a provider changes its fees.

Important: This guide is general information, not personal financial advice. Fees, limits and eligibility change; we check every figure on the date shown, but always confirm the current terms with the provider before you apply or travel.
